Abstract

1,267,908. Franking machines; printing machines. SINGER CO. 11 May, 1970 [9 June, 1969], No. 22628/70. Headings B6C and B6D. A printing machine such as a franking machine in which an envelope E is pressed into contact with a stationary flat platen forme 10 by a vertically reciprocable platen 21 is provided with guide means for the platen such that its surface is moved in parallelism with the surface of the forme 10 to prevent smudging of the impression. The platen 21 is supported pivotally by an arm 23 pivoted on a pin 41 and actuated through a compression spring 56 by a lever 43 acted upon by a cam 46 driven counterclockwise by a cranked handle (not shown) fast with a shaft 50, the surface of the platen 21 being maintained in the parallelism by means of a pin 34 depending from an extension 33 of the platen and engaging in an arcuate slot 70 of a bracket arm 69.
