Abstract
769,800. Textile drafting mechanism. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd. Aug. 19, 1955 [Nov. 2, 1954], No. 31600/54. Class 120 (2). A textile drafting mechanism comprises an arm acting via a spring on a roller saddle, the arm being carried by a mounting or bracket and being positively located relative thereto in a normal working position by means of a toggle link extending between the arm and the mounting. In the arrangement shown an arm 1 is pivoted at its rear on trunnion pins 3 extending from a rectangular member 2 through which an adjusting screw 6 passes. A second pivot 8 is provided on the arm and a toggle linkage consisting of a pair of links 11 pivoted to a toggle member 13 at 12 extends between the pivot 8 and a further pivot 9 on the frame of the machine. A handle 15 is provided for operating the toggle mechanism. When the toggle is broken by pushing the handle 15 upwards the arm can be lifted away from the bottom rollers i.e. from its normal position, by further pressure on the handle the arm being pivoted about 3. Movement of the handle in a downward direction lowers the arm to an operating position in which pressure is once more applied between the upper and lower rollers and the toggle is locked in its operative position. In this position pressure is applied to the upper rollers 17 and 18 by means of the spring 20 which extends between the 'arm 1 and the saddle 21 which carries supports for the rollers 17 and 18. The saddle 21 is fitted at its rear end on a bearing pin 22 so that the top rollers may align themselves with the bottom rollers. Adjustment of the loading is made by rotating the adjusting screws 6.
