Abstract

647,695. Wringers. PARNALL (YATE), Ltd. Oct. 27, 1947, No. 27907/48. Divided out of 647,649. [Class 138 (ii)] A wringing machine has a fixed frame member which provides the main support for the rollers, in which one roller is rotatably mounted on a fixed bearing and a second roller is rotatably mounted upon a bearing carried by an arm which projects from the frame member into the second roller, the arm being fulcrumed on the frame and engaged by a rigid link which is pivoted on a spring controlled adjustable member, consisting of a carrier for a helical spring through which said arm passes, the link being disposed between the arm and the frame member and having a longitudinal dimension greater than the distance between the arm and the frame, the arrangement being such that on compression of the spring, the link is constrained to tilt the arm about its fulcrum, so urging the second roller into engagement with the first roller. A lower roller 2 is rotatably mounted in a fixed bearing 6, in a frame 1, and is drivable by a handle 10. An upper roller 3 is rotatably mounted on the outer end of a rigid arm 14 which is recessed to receive a bearing surface 15 on the frame 1. The other end of the arm 14 is screwed to receive a hand wheel 16 which abuts a saddle-shaped sleeve 17 slidable on the arm 14 and engaging a helical spring 18 surrounding the arm and carried in a rightangled bracket 21 formed with side webs. The saddle 17 is shaped to clear a stop pin 19 on the arm, and an abutment 20 integral with the saddle is engageable with the pin at the limit of movement of the saddle, when pressure on the spring 18 is released. The bracket 21 rests on a roller 22 seated in a recess in a projection 23 formed on the frame 1. The roller 22 may be dispensed with and the projection 23 rounded at its top to provide friction-free movement of the bracket 21. A link 24 having rounded ends is pivoted between ears projecting from the bracket 21. One end of the link engages a recess in the frame 1 while the other end engages the lower surface of the arm 14 at a point between the pin 19 and the end of the arm. Compression of the spring 18 causes the bracket 21 to slide over the roller 22 and thus by carrying the link 24 with it, raises the arm 14 within the frame 1. The outer end of the arm is thus depressed to urge the roller 3 into pressure engagement with the roller 2. Specification 634,731 is referred to.
