683,413. Machinery guards. WASHERS, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1951 [Feb. 24, 1950], No. 4744/50. Class 80 (iv). A guard plate j adapted to sweep across the work area of a hand-operated press on the working stroke is carried by one end of a bell-crank lever d', d<SP>3</SP> pivotally supported on the ram of the press (not shown) at e. The arm d<SP>2</SP> of the lever has a cam surface d<SP>1</SP> adapted to engage with fixed but adjustable stops b, c on a fixed part of the machine so that on the working stroke the guard is moved in an arcuate path across the working area adjacent the table k and against the tension of a spring f which returns the guard to the inoperative position shown on the upstroke of the ram. The guard plate i is spring coupled to the arm d' of the bell crank which is adjustably clamped to the other arm d<SP>2</SP>.
