706,270. Tractor driving gear. RUHRSTAHL AKT.-GES. Nov. 5, 1951 [Nov. 6, 1950; April. 5, 1951; May 15, 1951], No. 25851/51. Classes 79(1) and 79(2) In a tractor having change speed gear mechanism disposed transversely to the engine thereof, bevel wheel reversing gear mechanism is interposed between the engine clutch shaft and the main shaft of the change speed gear, one bevel wheel of which is adapted to drive an auxiliary power take off shaft having one direction of rotation and a reversing drive shaft adapted to drive through a pair of spur gear gears in the same direction of rotation, the change speed gear main shaft, the other bevel wheel being adapted to drive the reversing drive shaft in the opposite direction of rotation, the lay shaft of the change speed gear driving the wheel shafts through spur wheels coupled to a differential gear. In the arrangement shown, a clutch spindle 1 of a tractor engine is connected through bevel gears 2, 3 and 4 to a shaft 5 and a power take-off shaft 16. The shaft 5 is slidable axially thereof and is in splined connection with a spur gear 6 and with either of bevel gears 3 and 4 so that the gear 6 may be driven in either direction to give forward and reverse movements of the tractor. The gear 6 drives, through a gear 7, a main shaft 8 of a change-speed gear, which latter is connected, through a spur gear 11 which includes a differential gear, with an axle driving shaft 12, connected through gears 13, 14 with an axle 15. The power-take-off shaft 16 is directly connected to bevel gear 4 and drives through bevel gearing output shafts disposed at right angles to the shaft 16. The arrangement is such that the shafts 5 and 16 and the shafts 8 and 9 of the change speed gear lie in the same vertical plane and the axes of the shaft 12 and axles 15 lie in the same horizontal plane as the shaft 9. All the gear is contained in a common housing 26 connected to an engine housing 27 by flanges to form a unit which is secured to the tractor frame about the axis of the shaft 12 and by an arm 29 pivoted to a frame member 31. The vertical central plane of the engine coincides approximately with the vertical plane through the axles 15. An oil pressure cylinder 34 is provided for actuating implements and a fuel tank is pivotally located above the engine and rests at one end on an engine radiator 37. A driving seat 38 is located in front of the engine above the gear housing.
