706,072. Disc brakes. CLEVELAND CRANE & ENGINEERING CO. Feb. 15, 1952 [Feb. 28, 1951], No. 4086/52. Class 103(1) [Also in Group XXIV] A shaft 26 has a brake disc 98 splined thereto and engaged by friction discs 99, 100 under the action of springs 104. The brake is released by pressure fluid, entering a cylinder 95 and acting on a piston 102 attached to a plate 103, under the control of a pedal operated valve 110. The friction discs may be splined at 101 to the cylinder 95 as shown or they may float. Each friction disc may be split to facilitate removal. The disc 98 is similar in construction to the clutch plate 74 which comprises spaced walls 79, 80 separated by webs 81, 82 spaced alternately around the plate. Openings 83 in the walls 79, 80 allow a circulation of cooling air.
