Abstract

683,671. Friction clutches. GOODRICH CO., B. F. April 17, 1951, No. 8941/51. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a clutch the. inner of two concentric members 10, 12 has an outwardly open peripheral channel for an expander tube 15, torque bars 24 bridging said channel, and a plurality of arcuate shoes 16 in said channel, said shoes having ends 21 of reduced thickness, retracting means 32 being disposed between said shoe ends and said torque bars, said channel having side openings 35 for removal of said retracting means and said shoes being individually removable by outward swinging movement with said retracting means removed. In the embodiment shown the retracting means comprise leaf springs 32. The channel is formed by cut-away side plates 17, 18 connected by bolts 25 passing through the torque bars 24. Each shoe is formed with passages 36 for cooling air and carries a removable metal sheet 41 attached to a friction lining 40.
