[Also in Group XXXII] In a motor vehicle comprising an auxiliary frame carrying the power unit and road wheel suspension means and detachably connected as a whole to the vehicle main frame with the interposition of rubber cushions, the auxiliary frame is formed by a part comprising longitudinal and transverse members disposed in a substantially horizontal plane and by a further transverse member located outside this plane in a substantially vertical transverse plane at the mid-length of the auxiliary frame and fixedly connected to the frame part, the further transverse member serving for the abutment of springs by which the road wheels are sprung with respect to the auxiliary frame. As shown the invention is applied to a front wheel drive with a forwardly mounted engine; the invention can however be applied to a rearwardly mounted engine driving rear wheels or a forwardly mounted engine with rear wheel drive, Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown). The power unit comprises the engine 1 and its accessories, flywheel and clutch housing 2 and change speed gear 3. The radiator 16 is mounted behind the engine 1 and is mounted on a mount e<SP>1</SP> eccentric to the central longitudinal axis of the vehicle, the engine an amount e in the opposite direction and the engine cylinders 17 are inclined to ensure free access of air to the radiators. The power unit is resiliently mounted at 7, 8 on the auxiliary frame 9, the axis of oscillation X-X of the unit passing through the centre of gravity S of the engine. The auxiliary frame 9 is formed of the longitudinal members 10 and the front and rear transverse members 11, 12 with a substantially U-shaped member 13 braced by the further transverse member.15 extending across the top of the change gear 3. The frame of the vehicle which may be separate or integral with the vehicle body comprises tubular members 34, 35, 38, 39, 40, 41 (the member 41 may be detachable) and the auxiliary frame is connected to the vehicle frame resiliently at 43,. 44, the axis y-y of such mountings being disposed an amount h from the axis of the wheel centres, the wheels 6 being independently mounted on the auxiliary frame (see Group XXXII). The wheels 6 are steered through rack and pinion gear 30 from a steering column 33 which is connected with the gear 30 by a releasable coupling 32. Specification 705,534 is referred to.
