[Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (iv)] In a motor vehicle, the frame of which comprises a central longitudinal, preferably tubular, girder member a with a forked rear extension b, the engine and gearbox unit k is mounted between the fork limbs on rubber or like cushioning pads q, the drive being transmitted to road wheels carried by halfaxles c pivoted to the unit casing so as to swing only in a transverse vertical plane, the arrangement being such that, whilst vertical shocks are taken by the suspension springs h, shocks in other directions are damped by the cushioning means between the engine unit and the frame. With a low central frame member a, the forked extension is curved upwards over the swinging half-axles, the engine unit being disposed so that its centre of gravity lies substantially in the plane of the fork. The fork is braced by three transverse members d, e, f, the central member e being above the fork and extended to carry the supports g for the springs h. The rear member f may carry the radiator, or, if this is located in front of the engine, it may carry the fuel tank or a spare wheel &c. The cushioning pads q, which are seated in recesses in lugs on the engine frame and are secured in known manner by bolts v, are disposed at the rear end o on bearing lugs on the fork limbs and at the front end on the transverse member d. A single cushioning support may suffice on the member d.
