Abstract

1,150,221. Motor vehicles. J. R. FERRIDAY and R. G. COLLIER. 22 March, 1966 [22 Dec., 1964], No. 52171/64. Headings B7B and B7H. [Also in Division F2] A three-wheeled motor vehicle with undriven coaxial rear road wheels 22 and a single steerable front wheel 21 driven by an engine 51 has the engine-front-wheel assembly mounted in the vehicle by a steering head supported by a cage frame surrounding the assembly and a rear frame 20 which supports a bench seat for the driver and passenger, a steering wheel 54 being connected through a reduction gear train to the front wheel assembly. The engine mounting post 40 is telescopically mounted in a tube 38 rotatably journalled in the steering head tube 29 by a top tube 41 which contains a helical compression spring forming a front wheel suspension and is coupled to the sleeve 38 for rotation therewith by pivoted links 45, 46 and a lug 47. In a modified engine mounting, Fig. 4, a spindle 65 rotatably mounted in the tube 29 carries rearward limbs 67 which are rigidly secured to the engine mounting post 68 which supports the engine 51 by bearer plates 69.
