Class 138 (1) In a windscreen wiper apparatus, for driving two wiper blades from a common motor of the kind in which the two wiper arm spindles are carried by a frame member and are each provided with a crank arm, the crank arms being connected by a substantially rigid rod or bar so that they will be moved together and the rod or bar is driven by a crank arm on a shaft carried by the frame member and driven by the motor, one of the crank pins of the three crank arms is movable relative to its associated crank arm in a direction radially with respect to the axis about which said crank arm rotates, whereby the pin automatically takes up a position in said crank arm which avoids binding. Wiper spindles 3, 3a, Fig. 1, carried in bearings 2, 2a at the ends of a frame member 1, are driven in unison from a suction motor 7 by means of a crank arm 9 on the motor shaft 7a , the connecting bar 6, and crank arms 4, 4a. The arm 9 has a slot 10 to slidably receive a crank pin 11 engaging in an aperture 15 in the bar 6. The crank pin 11, Fig. 2, has a shoulder 12 engaging one side of the crank arm 9 and is slidably secured in the slot 10 by rivetting the end 13 over against a washer 14 engaging the other side of the arm. In a modification the pin may be secured to the bar 6 and slidably engage in the slot. The slot may be open at its outer end. Instead of the motor crank-arm being slotted one of the wiper spindle crank arms may be slotted to receive its associated crank pin. The wiper motor with a slotted crank arm may be fitted to existing dual wiper installations providing the throw of the wiper blades is within the limits of the throw of the motor crank pin as defined by the length of the slot. The frame member may be constituted by part of the vehicle body.
