Abstract
705,213. Latching thermal switches. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 16, 1951 [Oct. 16, 1950], No. 24107/51. Class 38(5) A switch similar to that of Specification 642,109, [Group XXI], has main contacts 10a, 10b to control the supply of energy to a refrigerator and auxiliary contacts 14a, 14b to control an alarm circuit, a control knob 20 having three main operating positions, i.e. (a) a "normal" position in which the switch mechanism is free to operate the main contacts normally and in additon the alarm or auxiliary contacts in the event of excess temperature, (b) a " continuous run position in which the main contacts are maintained closed and the mechanism is free to operate the alarm contacts and (c) an " alarm off " position in which the mechanism is free to operate the main contacts but not the alarm contacts. In position (a), the main contacts 10a, 10b are opened and closed cyclically by a temperature responsive capsule 12 and snap-action mechanism 11 as described in the Specification referred to above and in the event of a high temperature, a cup 17 on the diaphragm of the capsule moves a lever 16 to close the contacts 14a, 14b. In position (b) a lug 21b engages an extension 11d of a lever 11b of the snap-acting mechanism to latch the lever and prevent the opening of the contacts 10a, 10b as the temperature falls, the contacts 14a, 14b being opened as described above should the temperature rise abnormally. In position (c) a cam member 21a is disposed so as to limit the movement of an adjusting screw 23 extending from the cup 17 to an extent such that the capsule 12 and mechanism 11 can operate the main contacts 10a, 10b, but that the permitted movement of the cup 17 is not suflicient to operate the alarm contacts 14a, 14b. In a modification, Fig. 4a (not shown), the alarm contacts are normally closed and are opened in the event of excess temperature. Reference is also made to U.S.A. Specification 2,511,640.
