Abstract

Non-metallic articles to be electrostatically painted are prewetted with a solvent comprising a percentage of the medium used in the final paint, or of a medium suitable for use in a wet-on-wet print. It is preferred that the prewetting agent contains 10 per cent. of the medium which is preferably of the heat-hardening type. A specified prewetting composition is medium oil alkyl resin, urea or melamine coating resin, ethyl acetate and diacetone alcohol. A final coat of an alkyl base stoving enamel may be sprayed thereon. The process is particularly applicable to the treatment of vulcanized steering wheels.
