Abstract

The surface of wood is treated with an aqueous composition comprising a potentially-reactive water-soluble polymeric urea-formaldehyde condensation product and an acidic hardener, and the surface abraided after the composition has been absorbed and dried. A finishing coat which may be a paint, lacquer e.g. cellulose lacquer or varnish is then applied. The aqueous composition may contain a wetting agent e.g. "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark).
