Abstract

<PICT:0590110/III/1> Wood is treated by bombarding with hard particles coated or mixed with pigment powder. Specified hard particles are metal abrasives, aluminium oxide and silicon carbide. The proportion of pigment powder to be mixed with the hard particles may be varied according to the required colour denseness or tone of the finished product. Pigment coated carrier particles 7, 8 are thrown from a centrifugal throwing wheel 9 against the wood surface 2 and the pigment is jarred from the carrier particles on the wood surface. The velocity of bombardment is preferably from 9,000 to 14,000 feet per minute. The pigmented surface is preferably coated with a transparent lacquer, which may be applied by spraying.
