Abstract
Articles are electrostatically spray coated with liquid coating material by charging a body of the liquid coating material by applying a voltage thereto, forming charged spray particles from a charged body of the liquid coating material by mechanical atomisation by air, and electrostatically depositing the charged particles on the article to be coated, the body of liquid coating material having such resistivity and being charged to such a voltage that at least 95% of the current carried to the article is borne by the charged coating material particles and not more than 5% of the current is airborne. The coating material may have a resistivity of 0.3 to 300 megohm-centimeters. Apparatus for carrying out the method is described.
