Abstract

703,829. Casting machines. ALLAM, P. S. (Cuyahoga Industries, Inc.). Aug. 6, 1952, No. 19818/52. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group V] A die-casting machine having a stationary abutment 13, mounted on a frame, to support a fixed die, a second stationary abutment 12 mounted on the frame and a third movable abutment 30 to support a co-operating die and linearly reciprocable between the first two abutments, comprises an internally threaded sleeve 34 slidably mounted in the second abutment 12, an externally threaded screw 32 with one end engaging said sleeve and the other rotatably supported by said movable abutment 30, externally accessible means for rotating the screw so as to move the abutment 30 axially with respect to the sleeve, power means for moving the sleeve, screw and movable abutment as a unit with respect to the frame, and wedge-shaped means 60 which are carried by the second abutment 12 and transversely movable for locking the sleeve at the closing operation of the dies. The sleeve 34 is axially movable in the member 12 by a piston 54 and adjustably positioned with respect to the said piston by a screw 55. The wedges 60 are operated in timed relationship to the closing of the dies and the operation of the piston 54. The screw 32 is moved to close the dies by teeth on its end co-operating with a worm driven from a gear 46 which may be hand-driven from a gear 47.
