Abstract

1,128,454. Pressure casting machine. PRESSENWERKE FREITAL, VEB. 4 Nov., 1965, No. 46775/65. Heading B3F. In a machine such as a die casting, or pressure casting machine or press having a movable platen 1 and a stationary platen 5, each having a tool part 4 attached thereto, guide bars 2 in the form of threaded spindles are secured to the movable platen and slidably engage the stationary platen to permit sliding movement of the movable platen to close the tool parts. A nut 8 is mounted on each guide spindle and is attached to the stationary platen by slide members 11 so as to permit the rotation of the nut with the movement of the spindle, but retaining its spaced axial relationship with the stationary platen 5. An hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 7, 6 is located between the nut and the platen 5 and is actuated when the tool parts 4 are closed during a casting operation to produce a force to hold the tool parts and platens in the closed position. The opening and closing movements of the platens may be effected by rotating the guide spindles or by separate piston and cylinder means 14, 15. Adjacent co-operating faces of the nut 8 and cylinder 6 may be provided with teeth or flutes to prevent slip when the tools are closed.
