Abstract

Pyrethrin is extracted from pyrethrum by means of di-isopropyl ether. The extraction may be effected in two stages, the first stage of which may be a preliminary extraction with another solvent, for example petroleum ether or a similar solvent such as petrol, kerosene, ketones, alcohols or ethylene dichloride. When a preliminary extraction agent is employed, the extracts in the two solvents may be combined in order to precipitate resins and other non-insecticidal substances dissolved in the preliminary extraction solvent, by means of the di-isopropyl ether. French Specification 846,982 is referred to.
