Abstract

1,248,757. Dry cleaning liquors. HENKEL & CIE G.m.b.H. 6 Dec., 1968 [8 Dec., 1967], No. 57944/68. Heading C5D. A dry cleaning liquor for the cleaning of textiles consists of (a) a major proportion of an organic solvent usually used in dry cleaning, (b) a minor amount of water and (c) a condensation product containing 2-14 moles of propylene oxide with a C 10 -C 20 primary alcohol and/or a C 6 -C 20 alkyl phenol. Component (a) may be CCl 4 , perchlorethylene, trifluorotrichloroethane, benzene or petroleum hydrocarbons of 140- 200‹ C. boiling range. An emulsion is prepared of components (a), (b) and (c), with or without the further addition of an alcohol, e.g. ethanol, propanol or isopropanol. In use, this emulsion is added to (a) to produce the cleaning liquor. The alcohol moiety of (c) may be lauryl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, decyl alcohol, tallow alcohol, coconut fat alcohol, oleyl alcohol, undecylenyl alcohol or isotridecyl alcohol or nonylphenol.
