Abstract

In order to reduce the swelling of non-boilable catgut sutures which results from the use of ethyl alcohol as a tubing fluid the fluid used comprises 65 per cent propyl alcohol, 10 per cent water and 25 per cent of an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethyl, methyl and tertiary butyl alcohols. The propyl alcohol is preferably isopropyl alcohol. Minimum swelling is obtained when tertiary butyl alcohol is used. Specification 609,145 is referred to.
