Abstract

Emulsions in water are made from solutions in ethanol, n-propanol or i-propanol (99,8-30% by weight of solution) (a) 0,-60% of one or more polysiloxanes having aromatic or saturated aliphatic substituents and (b) 0,1-10% of an ester of fatty acid of 8-18 C atoms with a polyglycol or a compound having at least 3 carbinol groups or a polyglycol ether of such a compound. The solution may also have added to it Zr, Sn or Cr compounds used for water-proofing textiles, e.g. chromium stearyl chloride or zirconium oxychloride. Specification 808,193 is referred to.ALSO:Solutions, self-emulsifying in water, of (a) 0,1-60% by weight of one or more liquid polysiloxanes having aromatic or saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon substituents and (b) 0,1-10% of an ester of a fatty acid having 8-18 carbon atoms with (i) a polyglycol; (ii) a compound containing at least 3 carbinol groups; or (iii) a polyglycol ether of (ii), in (c) ethanol, n-propanol or i-propanol. (a) may be a mixture of polysiloxanes, one containing Si-H bonds and the other not. The emulsions are used for hydrophobing textiles, and other water-proofing agents, e.g. Zr, Sn or Cr compounds, e.g. chromium stearyl chloride or zirconium oxychloride, may be added to the solution.
