701,716. Hull forms; floating power plants. SAKUNWADHNA, C. Oct. 2, 1952 [Oct. 5, 1951], No. 23241/51. Classes 113(1) and 113(2) In a floating power plant comprising a hull or two similar hulls 1, 2, connected together and having formed in it or between them a longitudinal channel convergent in plan, its side walls 5 being formed to a smooth curve in plan, at the narrow end of the channel is disposed an undershot water-wheel 7 coupled directly or through transmission means to a driven machine or machines. A guide plate 25 mounted about a horizontal axis 23 spans the channel and extends to the wheel and is adjustable in height through a manually operated rod and screw gear 26, 27, 28, the guide plate in effect forming a convergent nozzle in which the stream has no free surface. In the embodiment shown the water-wheel is geared to submerged pumps 14, the suction pipes 18 of which are connected to a hollow transverse member 20 spanning the gap between the hulls downstream of the water-wheel and having an open face 21 concentric with, and at a small clearance from, the tips of the vanes of the wheel 7.
