Concentrically mounted about the intake of the suction pipe of a dredger is a driven cutter having blades, preferably cantilevered from a rotor disc, carrying nozzles for directing water jets towards the centre of the intake, which is preferably provided with hydraulic injector means supplied from the same source of pressurised water as the nozzles.
