<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Met het inzicht de kenmerken volgens de uitvinding beter aan te tonen zijn hierna, als voorbeelden zonder enig beperkend karakter, enkele voorkeurdragende uitvoering- vormen beschreven, met verwijzing naar de bijgaande tekeningen, waarin : figuur 1 schematisch een inrichting volgens de uitvinding weergeeft ; figuur 2 een doorsnede weergeeft volgens lijn II-II in figuur 1 ; figuur 3 een doorsnede weergeeft volgens lijn III-III in figuur 2 ; figuur 4 een doorsnede weergeeft volgens lijn IV-IV in figuur 3 ; figuur 5 in detail een zijaanzicht weergeeft van een schroef zoals die kan worden toegepast in de uitvinding ; figuur 6 een zieht weergeeft volgens pijl F6 in figuur 5 ; figuur 7 een doorsnede weergeeft zoals in figuur 2, doch voor een variante van de uitvinding ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
stromingsrichting.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Device for generating energy.
This invention relates to a device for generating energy, in particular for generating electrical energy by using running water.
It has long been known that the flow of rivers can be used to generate energy. The force of the flowing water is used for moving a blade wheel, such as at a water mill, or a turbine at a hydropower plant fed by a dam. However, these structures have the disadvantage that they are bound to one place, that they are expensive and that their operation is influenced by the difference in level of the water.
The object of the invention is an apparatus which does not have the above-mentioned drawbacks. To this end, the device according to the invention can make use of currents in rivers and / or currents that occur in large currents and shallow coastal waters due to the tidal effect and / or currents in the high seas.
To this end, the invention relates to a device for generating energy, characterized in that it mainly consists of a floating body and at least one, at least partly below the waterline of this
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
body mounted drive element that provides energy under the influence of the flow.
The drive element, or the drive elements, are preferably arranged in a channel which permits the flow of water, whereby the flowing water is guided along the drive elements.
The channelization preferably consists of parallel channels that are only partially below the waterline of the floating body. These channels are separated from each other by a number of parallel hulls of the floating body, so that this body can be represented as built-up catamarans that channel the flow.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features according to the invention, some preferred embodiments are described below, as examples without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 schematically represents a device according to the invention; figure 2 represents a section according to line II-II in figure 1; figure 3 represents a section according to line III-III in figure 2; figure 4 represents a section according to line IV-IV in figure 3; figure 5 shows in detail a side view of a screw as can be used in the invention; figure 6 represents a view according to arrow F6 in figure 5; figure 7 represents a section as in figure 2, but for a variant of the invention;
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
figure 8 represents a section according to line VIII-VIII in figure 7; figure 9 represents a section according to line IX-IX in figure 8.
As shown in Figures 1 to 4, the device according to the invention mainly consists of a floating body 1, which is preferably provided with a channel 2 permitting the flow of water and at least one drive element 3 which is placed in the channel 2 and under the influence of the flow provides energy.
The channel 2 preferably provides a number of parallel channels 4. The channels 4 are preferably formed by a number of long and narrow hulls 5 which are spaced apart from each other.
The channels 4 and the hulls 5 are preferably only partially below the waterline 6 of the floating body 1. The floating body 1 can, in order to adjust the draft, be provided with ballast tanks 7 which, due to the stability, are accommodated in the hulls 5. It is clear that the stability of the device is increased by the long and narrow hulls 5, since each of the hulls 5 has too little volume to influence the stabilization state under the influence of a wave.
The undersides of the drive elements 3 are preferably located at a specific distance D above the undersides of the hulls 5 in order to avoid possible damage during drying.
Generators 8 are placed on top of or in the floating body 1 to transfer the mechanical energy of the drive
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
convert elements 3 into electrical energy by means of a transmission 9.
According to a preferred embodiment, the device is also provided with a production unit 10 for hydrogen. After all, the device lends itself particularly to the production of hydrogen, on the one hand because both the electrical energy and the water are available, and on the other hand because the device is suitable to be located in a remote location because of the danger of explosion of hydrogen.
Anchoring 11 is provided on the floating body 1 to prevent the device from drifting or changing its position uncontrollably, but in such a way that the floating body 1 can move in height according to the tide and also in a certain direction according to tide. or current.
In the embodiment of Figures 1 to 4, the drive elements 3 are completely below the waterline 6.
In this case, the drive elements 3 are placed next to each other in a channel 4, while several drive elements 3 are also provided one behind the other.
In the example shown, the drive elements 3 consist of screws, the shafts 12 of which run parallel to the continuous flow. These shafts 12 are preferably mounted in supports 13 between the hulls 5 of the floating body 1.
The screws have helicoidal propeller blades 14, each propeller blade 14 preferably having a shape as shown in Figures 5 and 6.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The flow in the channels 4 can be limited to a greater or lesser degree because these channels 4 can be partially or completely closed by means of adjustable closing means 15, such as slides that can be lowered in front of the entrances of the channels 4. The slides can be used to prevent damage to the driving elements 3 during storms, to facilitate the displacement of the device and to prevent objects floating on the surface from entering the channels 4.
The operation of the device can be deduced from the figures. It consists in that the drive elements 3 start to rotate due to the forces exerted by the flowing water on them. This current can originate from rivers and / or the tides in large streams and shallow coastal waters. The rotating drive elements 3 supply electrical energy via a transmission 8 and with the aid of the generators 7, which can be used for the production of hydrogen or for other purposes.
The dimensions, capacity and drive of the device can be adapted to the place where the device is used. The size and shape of the drive elements 3 are determined by the specific properties of the flow in which the device is located. The dimensions of the floating body 1 are preferably at least 25 m in width and 50 m in length. If the device is used at sea, the dimensions can be doubled or tripled. The screws in Figure 2 preferably have a diameter of about 1.5 meters.
The device must be anchored in such a way that it can move according to the tide or the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
flow direction. In order to define the correct place in which the floating body 1 may move, use can be made, for example, of satellite-controlled systems or systems which deploy additional anchors when the demarcated area is left uncontrolled.
Figures 7, 8 and 9 show a variant of the device according to the invention, wherein for the drive elements 3 use is made of paddle wheels, the shafts 16 of which are located above the waterline 6. Consequently, the driving elements 3 are only partly in the water. It is clear that the shafts 16 here extend transversely to the direction of flow of the water.
As can be seen from figure 8, there can be a plurality of driving elements 3 behind each other in each channel 4. It is also not excluded to mount several paddle wheels in one channel 4 next to each other.
As shown in figure 9, the channel 2 can be provided on the inflow side with a fixed closure 17 which extends just below the waterline 6, in order to protect the drive elements 3 against floating objects that are carried along with the flow.
The mechanical energy thus supplied by the drive elements 3 is converted into electrical energy by the generators located on the floating body 1. The obtained electrical energy can be used for the production of hydrogen in the hydrogen production unit 10. The processes for the production of hydrogen which can be used herein are generally known.

The present invention is by no means limited to the embodiments described by way of example and shown in the accompanying drawings, but such energy generating apparatus can be realized in various shapes and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
