701,268. Wood substitute. BEHR, E., KUHN, E., and BEHR, M. KEMPTER-, [trading as BEHR, E. [Firm of]]. Nov. 28, 1950 [Jan. 24, 1949], No. 29109/50. Class 70 [Also in Group VIII] A pressed object of bundles of wood fibres consists principally of shavings 50 to 150 mms. long, 2.5 to 7.5 mms. wide the length being at least 20 times the width, and their thickness does not exceed 1 mm., the fibres being substantially lengthwise of the shavings. The shavings are arranged in three dimensions Short fibred wood particles or sheets may also be present, and also continuous thin layers of natural wood. A veneer may be applied to the pressed object A binder, e.g. a synthetic resin or a water soluble glue, may be added prior to pressing. An apparatus which compresses the wood bundles comprises a vessel 7 narrowing towards its base and provided with rollers 8, 9a, 9b, 9c, having ribs 10. Roller 8 rotates in the opposite direction to the following rollers, the complete set of rollers mixing the bundles and binder. In a modification, mixing is effected by a ribbed roller 19 and converging conveyer bands 12, 13. Both roller and bands vibrate. A piston may replace the roller 19.
