Compound sheet materials.-Composite sheets for wall and ceiling coverings and partitions and for electric insulating purposes are made by applying glue or other adhesive to one or both sides of a sheet of metal or of sound-absorbent material such as sugar-cane or banana fibre, reeds, esparte grass, wood shavings, straw pulp, sawdust, cork, or seaweed, and then applying to one or both sides of the first sheet, a sheet or sheets of fireresisting material such as sheet cement, asbestos or asbestos cement, and subjecting the composite sheet to heat and pressure. Several sheets of sound-absorbent material may ba used, sheets of strengthening material such as sheet metal, wood, or ply-wood being preferably placed between the sheets. The pressure may be applied by rollers or in a press.
