Abstract

700,484. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Sept. 5, 1951 [Sept. 20, 1950], No. 20983/51. Class 138 (1) A windscreen wiper blade for flat windscreens comprises a wiper body, a channel assembly in which the top edge of the wiper body is held and of which the centre portion is split or notched to import flexibility to the blade, wherein a guide member loosely embraces the channel assembly and covers the split or notched portion so as to limit the flexibility of the blade, the guide member being unconnected to the wiper arm attachment means and free from contact with the wiper body. The wiper body 9 has an enlarged portion 10, Fig. 4, loosely gripped in two channel members 11, 12, Fig. 3, in order to allow the blade to assume an inclined position as it moves over the windscreen. The guide member 21 slidably fits around the inner ends of the channels 11, 12 and covers the gap 13 there between. The member 21 also permits limited up and down movement of the members 11, 12 therein. Outward movement of the members 11, 12 is limited by the edges of apertures 26, 27 therein engaging tongues 24, 25 depending slightly from cut-out portions 22, 23 in the guide member. The members 11, 12 are limited in their inward movement by abutting one another. Flexing of the body 9 is limited in both upward and downward directions by the inner ends of the members 11, 12 contacting the central portion of the guide member and the members 11, 12 contacting the outer ends of the guide member, respectively. The members 11, 12 are connected with a limited amount of play to the ends of a yoke member (not shown) connectible by a clip to the wiper arm. Stop members are provided on the outer ends of the channels 11, 12 to limit relative sliding movement between the member and the wiper body. Instead of the two part channel assembly 11, 12, a single channel having a notched central portion, providing flexibility, may be used. Specification 700,456 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 639,341 and 700,481.
