Abstract

681,957. Windscreen cleaners. TRICO PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Dec. 5, 1950 [Dec. 6, 1949], No. 29776/50. Class 138 (i). A windscreen wiper comprises an elongated squeegee, a supporting holder therefor and' a pressure distributing frame attachable intermediate its ends to an actuating arm, in which the frame has an extensible end section connected to an extensible end section of the holder and means are provided for securing the sections in adjusted positions to enable the overall length of the wiper blade to be varied. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a channelled holder 6, loosely embracing a rubber squeegee 5, is provided with slidable channelled end sections 6', connected by coupling means 15 to end extensions 8<SP>1</SP> slidable in the ends of a pressure distributing frame 8. Each extension 8<SP>1</SP> may be secured in any one of a number of positions by means of a detent 16, carried by a flat spring 17 on the frame 8, engaging in one of a number of holes 18 on the extension 8' and a hole in the end of the frame 8. The central portion of the holder 6 has its side walls weakened by notches 19 to provide a hinge portion between the rigid and extensible end portions. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, suitable for a curved windscreen the pressure distributing frame comprises a primary yoke 8a having adjustable end sections 8b pivotally connected to secondary yokes 21. The outer ends of the secondary yokes 21 are connected to holder sections 6b which can telescope into a holder 6a while the inner ends of the yokes 21 are slidably connected to the holder 6a. The side walls of the holder 6a and end sections 6b are notched as at 20 to afford flexibility. Fingers 30 of the holder 6a extend beyond the fingers on the sections 6b to give lateral support to the squeegee between the end sections. In a further embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown) the squeegee is supported by a holder in three sections, the outer sections being slidable in the ends of the middle section. The sections are in the form of parallel stays which fit into grooves on opposite sides.of the squeegee. The inner ends of the secondary yokes are slidable relative to the middle section stays whilst the outer ends are secured to the outer section stays. The co-operating endsof the inner and outer holder sections overlap one another. The section 6b, Fig. 6, may also overlap within the holder 6a. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 682,828.
