Abstract

700,297. Centrifugal separators. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Sept. 24, 1951 [June 26, 1950], No. 15946/50. Class 23 Apparatus for separating particles from fluid comprises an annular whirl-passage 4, a fluidpervious portion 6 of the inner wall of the whirl passage through which separated fluid passes to a discharge duct, and a particle collecting end part of the annular passage beyond the fluidpervious portion of the inner wall. Air and particles supplied to the passage are whirled by vanes 5. The particles and air are respectively discharged from a slot 7 and a bell-mouth 8. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the apparatus has a vertical axis with the inlet at the top. The fluid-pervious-portion of the inner wall diverges in the direction of fluid flow and a tapered core fitted with straightening vanes is provided in the discharge duct.
