Abstract

752,353. Centrifugal separators. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 22, 1954 [Jan. 24, 1953 ; July 22, 1953 ; July 22, 1953 ; July 22, 1953], No. 2063/54. Class 23. [Also in Group XII] A separator, Fig. 1, for separating solid or liquid particles from aerosols comprises a guide duct 1 having an aerosol inlet 2, an auxiliary gas inlet 3 and a baffle member 5. Sonic or ultrasonic vibration means may be used in conjunction with the separator. The vibrations effect co-agulation of the particles to be separated and are directed through the aerosol in the same direction as its flow or in an opposite direction thereto. The inlet 3 may be mounted for universal movement, on the duct or arranged for longitudinal displacement. In a modification, Fig. 3, the aerosol is fed into the duct 1 through a telescopic supply tube 7 which is concentrically disposed within the cone 6. The separator may be arranged within a chimney, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The nozzle of the inlet conduit 3 may be of circular crosssection or constitute a Laval nozzle. A plurality of nozzles may be arranged along the length of the guide duct, see Fig. 5 (not shown). The guide duct may constitute a combustion chamber for details of which Group XII should be referred to.
