Abstract

700,275. Commutators for dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 11, 1952 [March 16, 1951], No. 6291/52. Class 35 In a shrink-ring type commutator assembly the segments 18 are mounted on an inner metallic sleeve 13 with a roughened outer periphery to which insulation 17 in the form of ground glass and mica is moulded, the securing shrink-rings 19 being similarly treated at their inner periphery. The shell 13 is tapered and the tapered surface is roughened e.g. by notching in a grid pattern as shown at 16 while the inner periphery of the rings 19 are also similarly patterned. The insulation to be applied to the grids 22, 16 is preferably made of an aggregate inorganic base moulding compound consisting of finely divided silicate (e.g. mica) with a bonding agent of finely divided vitreous material (e.g. glass).
