Abstract

700,214. Wrenches. BARTLETT, V. A. H. A. March 21, 1952 [Aug. 27, 1951], No. 20111/51. Class 61 An open ended ratchet wrench comprises two pivotally connected jaw members 11, 12 angularly movable towards and away from each other, the jaw 11 being pivotally mounted on a handle 10 having a rigid dog 20 which on movement of the handle in a clockwise direction engages the jaw 12 and moves it inwardly into gripping engagement with the work. The jaw 12 is pivoted at 17 to the bifurcated end of the member 11. A projecting part 14 of the handle is detachably pivoted at 13 in a recess 15 in the jaw member 11, the recess providing shoulders to limit the pivotal movement of the handle. The arcuate shaped dog 20 co-operates with a shoulder 19 on the jaw 12. A leaf spring 21 anchored to the handle holds the jaw 11 in operative position. The gripping surfaces of the jaws are preferably serrated or roughened and may be straight, curved or inclined to one another.
