Abstract

700,031. Wire strainers. SIMPSON-LAWRENCE, Ltd., and McALLISTER, S. July 23, 1952 [July 24, 1951], No. 17483/51. Class 45 A lever 1 for tightening the backstay wire 10 of a sailing vessel is pivotally mounted in a bracket 2 secured to the deck 3 of the vessel and includes a sheave or sheaves 4 mounted for sliding movement in the lever. The sheave or sheaves are rotatably mounted on a pin 9 which can be positioned in one or other of two pairs of aligned holes 7, 8 in guides 5. The guides are positioned one on each side of the sheave or sheaves in slots 6 in the lever so that they can slide. The alternative hole 7, 8 allow the effective length of the wire 10 to be adjusted and the guides 5 may also be reversed in their slots to allow a finer adjustment.
