566,665. Winch brakes. COATSWORTH, H. C., and GIBBON, O. R. April 2, 1943, No. 5323. [Class 78 (v)] A winch drum, more particularly for launching a boat from a ship, has a medial partition dividing it into two parts, one for each fall. The dropping of the boat is controlled by a belt-brake 10 which is normally " on " through the pull of a weight or a spring. Fig. 2 shows a weight 17 adjustable along an arm 15 pivoted at 12 and having hingedly connected to points near the pivot 12 the ends of the belt 10. The weight 17 can be raised by a cord 21 passing eitherdirect, or over fairleads, to the boat so as to be under the control of a person in the boat. The boat may be raised by an electric winch motor also controlled from the boat. Slidable pulleys 19 guide the falls from the drum to the davit head pulleys.
