Abstract
699,733. Beat-up motions in looms BERG G. March 24. 1950 [April 7, 1949], No. 9475/49. Class 142(iii) In a loom for weaving terry-towelling or like pile fabrics the weft 'is only partially beaten-up for a number of picks and then fully beaten-up on the next pick. An eccentric 11 is interposed between each slay sword 5 and a thrust member 10 driven from the crank shaft 8 and is so arranged that the eccentric is at its approximate dead centre position at full beat-up. Movement of the eccentric to reduce beatup is controlled by a spring 16 attached to the sword 5 and a double arm lever member 14 rigid with the eccentric. A hooked rod 19 pivoted to a pre-set bell crank 24-25 is raised and lowered by a further rod 29 controlled bv a cam 21 driven off the loom. When the rod 19 is lowered, its hook 20 engages with a pin 18 set in the lever member 14, revolving the eccentric against the spring 16 and shortening the effective stroke of the slay for partial beat-up. Screws 27 and 34 are provided to regulate the pile loop lengths and the full beat-up limit respectively. Specification 527,711 is referred to.
