Abstract

621,151. Beat-up motions picking motions ; shuttles. ARBUCKLE, A. Sept. 2, 1946, No. 26320. Drawings to Specification. [Class 142 (iii)] Beat-up motion ; shuttle.-In a loom having a stationary slay, the shuttle is wedge-shaped in crosssection and lays the weft close to the fell ; at the same time, the front edge of the shuttle deflects the raised warp yarns upwards and the lowered warp yarns downwards, so pressing them round the preceding pick to move it into place. Picking motion.-The shuttle is handed across the shed by two rods having pins which enter holes in the ends of the shuttle ; two of the pins on each rod are electromagnets and are energised to pull the shuttle on the second half of its movement. Each rod is actuated by a compound crank comprising a second crank mounted on the crank pin of a first crank ; the cranks are of equal throw and are geared to rotate at the same speed in opposite directions, whereby the second crank pin moves in a. straight line.
