Abstract
699,258. Grab buckets. CAULFIELD, W. J.. and WESTWOOD & CO.. Ltd., J. Feb. 29, 1952. [March 2, 1951] No. 5160/51. Class 78 (iv). In a grab in which the bucket sections when closed are locked bv a hook 6 on the lower purchase block 7 engaging a pin 1 on the crossbeam, the hook 6 is counterweighted at one end 9 to move to unlocking position and is urged by a spring 10 on the pivot 11 of the hook to the locking position, the force of the spring being greater than the force of the counterweight. The effect of the spring 10 is removed to release the buckets by a pawl 16 mounted on the block 7. One end 22 of the pawl lies in the path of the inner guide 19 of the beam so that. on raising the block, the pawl is rotated by striking the guide to lift the end 14 of the spring from the abutment 15 on the hook and allows the hook to disengage from the pin 1 under the action of the counterweight when lowered onto the material.
