Abstract

1302770 Sling hooks AMERICAN CHAIN & CABLE CO Inc 27 April 1970 [8 July 1969] 20053/70 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A sling hook 9 receives an enlarged ferrule 10 at one end of a sling rope S in a pocket formed by a pair of recessed seating surfaces 12, one in each of two walls, part of a support member 11, spaced sufficiently to allow the rope S to pass between them. As shown in Fig. 3, the ferrule 10 is retained in position by a latch 22 pivoted at 23 on the member 11. Two such hooks 9 are pivotally mounted on a lifting frame (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), which carries a drive mechanism (29), operated remotely by radio waves, adapted positively to release the ferrules 10 simultaneously. Actuation of the mechanism (29) retracts a control cable 24 initially causing a pin 26 to rise in a slot 25<SP>1</SP> in a lifting member 13 and rotate the latch 22 into its open position. Continued retraction of the cable 24 causes portion 16 of the lifting member 13 to engage the ferrule 10 and lift it clear of the lip L of the pocket. Over the final part of the movement of the member 13 a pin 20 engages second arm 19 of an ejecting member 14 pivoted at 17 to the member 11 to cause its first arm 18 to engage the ferrule 10 and force it laterally clear of the pocket as shown in Fig. 6.
