Abstract

1,186,765. Hooks. STAL & MASKIN A.B. 5 July, 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 31009/67. Heading E2A. A lifting and lowering hook suitable for use in lifting and hoisting apparatus comprises a hook portion 11 attached to a lifting means 2, a closing member 9 journalled on a pivot 5 carried near the free end of the hook portion, the closing member comprising an upper portion 9a adapted to close and open the entrance opening of the hook portion and a lower load-actuated portion 9b having a shape corresponding to the inner contour of the lower part of the hook portion, the closing member being pivotable on the pivot between positions respectively closing and opening the entrance opening and also being adapted automatically to be moved from the opening position to the closing position and to be held in this latter position upon application of a load on the lower portion of the closing member, and a spring biassed latch 4 latching said closing member in the closing position, the latch being positioned near the upper end of the portion of the closing member closing the entrance opening of the hook portion and adapted to perform a latching action against a shoulder 3 provided at the upper portion of the entrance opening of the hook portion on the portion of the hook adjacent the lifting means. The closing member consists of two portions which are connected together by the pivot pin 5 and by pins 7 and 8, the lower parts straddling the lower part of the hook portion. Abutments 13 and 16 limit pivoting movement of the closing member. In a modification the closing member consists of one part only.
