Abstract
Isopropyl benzene hydroperoxide is prepared by the oxidation of isopropyl benzene in the homogeneous liquid phase by molecular oxygen and in the presence of steam as in the parent Specification, the reaction temperature being maintained at 105-120 DEG C. and the minimum amount of steam present in the gas space above the reaction mixture to avoid explosion risk being adjusted accordingly, viz. <TABS:0699047/IV (b)/1> This table shows the minimum amount of steam present, with respect to oxygen after deduction of the isopropyl benzene vapours. In examples: (1) isopropyl benzene is oxidized to the hydroperoxide at 115 DEG C. by passing in oxygen with continuous addition of dilute aqueous sodium carbonate; (2) the process of (1) is carried out at 105 DEG C.
