Abstract
699,018. Flanging. ALBON & SONS, Ltd., R. J. Oct. 5, 1951 [July 7, 1950], No. 17067/50. Class 83 (iv). A machine for re-shaping the chimbs, or end flanges, of metal drums comprises a freely rotatable work support, a pair of working rolls, means for driving one of the rolls to rotate the work and means for relatively adjusting the rolls. The machine comprises a base 4 in which is mounted a rotary drum supporting table 1 and a main frame including columns 7 along which a cradle 9 is adjustable by a screw 39 through gears 41, 42 and a hand-wheel 44. The cradle is counterbalanced by a weight 60 and carries a hardened steel roll 29 with a toothed periphery driven from a motor 24 and adapted to bear against the outer face of the chimb and so rotate the drum. An idle bevel roll 30 adapted to bear against the inner face of the chimb is journalled in bearings 32 adjustable by a hand-wheel 38 and screw 36 along guides 34 fixed to side brackets 35 extending upwardly and outwardly from the main frame. The drum may be steadied by idle rolls 50 and 55 adjustably mounted at each side of the roll 29.
