Abstract

698,643. Drilling. DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., and HITCHINS, D. S. July 21, 1952 [May 28, 1951], No. 12501/51. Class 83 (iii). A drilling jig comprises a metal or other supporting plate I having a longitudinal slot 2 associated with a strip of elastic material 6 and a number of equally-spaced metal bushes 4 carried by the strip, the strip 6 being extensible lengthwise of the slot to increase the spacing of said bushes. The bushes 4 are flanged and moulded into the strip. The lower flanges 8 locate the strip along the slot. Alternatively, the strip itself is grooved to engage the edges of the slot. A hole 3 at the end of the slot permits removal of the strip. In use, the two end holes of a line are first drilled and two of the bushes are then registered with the holes by locating pins 10, 11, the bushes being chosen to have the same number of bushes between them as holes that are required. The plate 1 is raised clear of the work by rubber strips 9.
