698,623. Dynamo-electric machines for pumping liquids. MURGATROYD, W., and TREFETHEN, L. M. Sept. 3, 1951 (Aug. 23, 1950], No. 20835/50. Class 35. Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields.-In a pump operating by the action of magnetic fields, asymmetry is produced in the currents induced in the liquid by the applied alternating field, so that a pumping pressure is produced. As shown, the flat, insulating duct 5 which is traversed by alternating flux perpendicular to the plane of the paper, contains a U-shaped conducting bar 3 which causes the induced currents to follow an asymmetrical path 14. In modifications, electrically-resistive plates are disposed in the liquid or the duct is tapered to distort the flow of current with the same effect. A radial form having a ring of barriers to distort the flow of induced current is also described. Specification 586,276, U.S.A. Specification 1,298,664 and German.
