Abstract
718,429. Dynamo-electric machines. MURGATROYD W. Sept. 12, 1952 [July 23, 1951], No. 17383/51. Class 35 Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields.- An A.C. or D.C. electromagnetic interaction pump comprises an annular duct between concentric conducting cylinders, electric current being passed radially between them through the liquid interacting with circumferential flux to produce the pumping action. In its simplest form, Fig. 1, the pump comprises a metal rod 13 concentric with a cylinder 12, current passing radially through the liquid along lines 11 giving rise to the circumferential flux in the liquid. In a modification, Fig. 3, the liquid channel 31 is between concentric tubes 32, 33, and coils 34, whose ends are carried through the tubes by short tubes 35, produce a circumferential flux supplementing that produced by the radial current. Various arrangements of pumps connected in series or parallel are described, and a developed form in which the inner tube is of streamlined form pointed at the ends, is described.
