Abstract

698,585. Rectifiers. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 18, 1951 [Sept. 27, 1950], No. 21883/51. Class 37. A rectifier comprises a stack of germanium or other semi - conducting pellets made, e.g. as described in Specification 718,265, alternating with conducting material. The latter may be in the form of a plating of ferromagnetic material 21, Fig. 3, covering about half the surface of each pellet and a magnetic field can be used to assist the correct orientation of the pellets during assembly. Alternatively metal plates 14 ... 16, Fig. 2, which are soldered to one pellet and provide the limited-area contact to another are used. In another form, Fig. 1 (not shown), the metal plates are flat on both sides. The correct pressure between semiconductors and counter-electrodes is ensured by springs 12.
