779,195. Hermetically sealed rectifiers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 11, 1955 [March 12, 1954], No. 7327/54. Addition to 749,030. Class 37. In an hermetically-sealed electric rectifier of the type claimed in the parent Specification in which rectification takes place over an extended area of the rectification element in which germanium or silicon is used as the semiconductor or rectifying element, for example the rectifier may be of the P-N junction type, two metal plates 1, 2 are spaced apart by a ring of insulating material 4 (i.e. glass or vitreous enamel) hermetically sealed directly to one of the plates 1 and to the other plate 2 through the intermediary of a ring-shaped metal disc 7 which is sealed to the other plate 2, the rectifying element 3 being located between the ring of insulating material 4 in electrical contact with both plates 1 and 2, the ring of insulating material 4 being hermetically sealed between concentric flanges 5, 6 formed on plate 1 and metal disc 7 respectively.
