Class 100(ii) [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] A hydraulic press for making moulds from type and the like, which comprises a ram and a chamber containing hydraulic medium and communicating at one end with the ram comprises an air filled space between the hydraulic medium and the end of the ram, for the automatic regulation of the rise of pressure transmitted by the hydraulic medium to the ram. A ram 2 slidable in a cylinder 1 contains liquid which is pumped to the underside of the ram by a pump 5 actuated by a motor 10. The ram 2 is formed on the underside with a cavity 3 which in operation forms an air space between the underside of the ram and the working liquid. The volume of air may be increased by connecting a pressure cylinder 8 to the working space.
