697,576. Shirts. ARTZT, W. W. Nov. 14, 1951 [Dec. 26, 1950], No. 26646/51. Class 141. An elongated tube 10, Fig. 1, of circular knit fabric stretchable laterally is provided with T-shaped patterns 12, 14, 16. Each pattern such as 12 has longitudinally extending portions 20, 22 and a stem portion 18 at rightangles thereto, a cut-out portion 32 being provided. When the pattern is cut out it is refolded transversely and the front 20a, Fig. 3, joined to the back by side seams. 44, 46 which continue on the undersides of the sleeves 18a, the seams starting at lower curved portions of the back and front to prevent the garment riding up in wear. The tube may be provided with longitudinally extending zones which are more yieldable laterally than the rest of the tube e.g. by providing an accordion knit in these areas, the zones extending down the back and front of the garment on either side of the neck opening and around the sleeves. In a modification, laterally extensible inserts are provided at the sides of the garment.
