Abstract

A putty composition comprises a water-soluble cellulose derivative, e.g. methyl or ethyl cellulose or a salt of cellulose glycollic acid, an inorganic filler graded between 0.0005 and 0.8 mms. and sufficient water to render plastic. Preferred quantity of the cellulose derivative is 2 per cent of the dry solids of the composition, which may also include fibrous materials, emulsions, pigments and hydraulic binders. Sand, pumice, whiting, chalk, kieselguhr, dolomite, felspar, gypsum, cement, asbestos, peat, cellulose fibres, hair and glass fibres are specified ingredients. Synthetic resins, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, or natural binders, e.g. bitumen, may also be present.ALSO:A putty composition comprises a water soluble cellulose derivative, inorganic fillers graded between 0.0005 and 0.8 mms. and water to render plastic. Hydraulic binders e.g. cement and gypsum, pigments, and fibrous material, e.g. asbestos, peat, cellulose, board fibre, staple fibre, cowhair, glasswool and stonewool may also be present. Vegetables fibres may be pretreated with calcium chloride solution when cement is present. Specified cellulose derivatives are methyl and ethyl cellulose and salts of cellulose glycollic acid. Inorganic fillers specified are chalk, sand, kieselguhr, felspar, dolomite, whiting and pumice. 2 per cent. of the dry solids of the composition comprises the cellulose derivative. In addition, emulsions of synthetic resins e.g. polyvinylacetate or natural binders e.g. bitumen may be present.
